AP Fiascos

More than 10,000 imported cars with a street value of more than RM1bil are lying idle in several ports in the country all because of an Approved Permit (AP) snag.

That's horrible!!!

What will happen and what what is going to happen?

Will Pak Lah now bend the rules backward and fastforward the AP approval?

History has it that when one step is taken forward, it will later require three steps backward to curtail chaos and complexities.

Will History repeat itself?

The issuance of APs has been held back pending announcement of the details of the National Automotive Policy (NAP) launched recently. Dealers said business was badly hit especially because it happened to be a multi- festival season – Deepavali, Hari Raya,Christmas and New Year – when sales normally hit an all-time high. As a result, a large number of car salesmen and dealers and their allied industries have suffered heavy losses based on sales over the past six months. “The importers and dealers now fear losing their business if the matter is not resolved soon,” Malay Car Importers and Dealers Association president Datuk Abdul Hamid Ibrahim told The Star yesterday.

Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Mah Siew Kiong said those affected by the delay should meet ministry officials. “The ministry is willing to help the importers sort out the problems affecting the industry.

“Show us the APs and we will let the cars in,” Customs director-general Datuk Abdul Rahman Abdul Hamid said.

Will the system revert back where it was before the AP Fiasco?

Pak Lah had treaded on suicidal issue and it will be insidious.
