70% Women Graduates Unemployable?

Puteri Umno chief Datuk Noraini Ahmad said unemployment among women graduates, especially Malays, was growing by the year.

Figures released by the Statistics Department stated that until December, more than 23,800 female graduates were unemployed. Of this, 13,883 were degree holders and the remaining 9,999 diploma graduates.

Noraini said the National Economic Action Council records showed 18,000 jobless graduates in September, of whom 72 per cent were females. Puteri Umno, she said, was concerned over the matter considering that 68 per cent of the 42,000 public university students pursuing degrees this year were women.

The Statistics Department also showed that there were close to 400,000 women in Malaysia who are jobless.

Are they unemployable or refused to be employed?

Noraini seems to be barking in the forest and at the wrong tree. Unemployment stems from various reasons; low pay, tough jobs, unchallenging jobs, lack of knowledge and incompetence in English, parental exclusive protection and pampering, lack of communication skills, and competitive environment. One more factor: Economic depression ... is Malaysia going through such situation now?
