Results of NST Nationwide telephone poll of 1,113 respondents aged 20 and above.
58% Malays, 63% Chinese & 43% Indians polled said that Malays are lazy.
71% Malays, 60% Chinese & 47% Indians said that Chinese are greedy.
64% Malays, 58% Chinese & 20% Indians agreed that Indians cannot be trusted.
90% respondents said they are proud to be Malaysian but only 45% considered themselves Malaysian.
Only 12% considered themselves equally Malaysian.
73% Indians said they see themselves as Malaysian, 52% Chinese and 35% Malays said the same.
29% said unity of Malaysians are superficial.
76% said govt policies help improve racial integration.
Zeffri Yusof said public universities do a lousy job in racial integration and that the quota system does not help.
Can we agree on the results? What is the composition of the respondents in terms of races, demographic, and geographic?
Would the respondent not tell the truth, or being diplomatic, or are afraid of repercussions?
More questions should had been posed such as:
Won't it be true to say that the racial-type political parties such as that of Barisan National and PAS the main cause of racial divide?
Would it be true to say that the competition for Malay's vote between UMNO and PAS contributed to much of the racial divide?
Would it be true to say that the NEP is the primary cause of much dissatisfactions amongst the races which drives the community to seek and planned their own communal objectives so as to derive some form of social security and safety?
Would it be better off if the system of government follows the republic system of election such as those practice in US as opposed to UK?
Would it be better off if communal schools be scraped and only national-type schools exist?
Would it be better if we identify ourselves as Malaysians instead of Malays, Chinese or Indians?
Would it help if UMNO, MCA and MIC, integrate and become a single monolithic party and at the same time DAP and PAS becomes one party?
Won't it be better if we eliminate corruption by legalising it and setup a taxation structure to channel the money back to the poor?
Would it be better if we don't talk anything about this?

"... 90% respondents said they are proud to be Malaysian but only 45% considered themselves Malaysian... "
waaah... inconsistencies galore... how can 90% say they are proud to be Malaysian when 55% don't consider themselves Malaysian? when you have such a glaring inconsistency, how can one even pretend to take the rest of the responses seriously?
... I'd really like to know how the poll was designed, how they chose their respondents, etc etc etc. How much thought was actually put into it, or was it just "throw these bunch of questions at a bunch of people"??
I agree with you, your suggested questions have so much more "meat" and meaning... but of course the answers to THOSE questions would not be something "people-up-there" want to hear about...
