Cherie Blair, wife of British Prime Minister Tony Blair has agreed to lead the legal team acting for construction firm Fawziah Holdings in the final appeal before the Federal Court on June 14.
Blair, a Queen’s Counsel (QC), is applying for ad hoc admission to appear as an advocate and solicitor here.
The Federal Court will be hearing the final appeal by toll concessionaire Metramac Corporation Sdn Bhd against an order by the Court of Appeal to pay RM65mil to Fawziah Holdings for loss of advertising rights.
On the same day, the Federal Court is also scheduled to hear applications by former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin and businessman Tan Sri Halim Saad to expunge all references made in relation to them during the handing down of the Court of Appeal judgment.
Cherie Blair became a barrister in 1976 and QC in 1995. In 1999 she was appointed a Recorder (a permanent part-time judge) in the County Court and Crown Court.
She is Chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University and Governor of the London School of Economics and the Open University.
She is a founding member of Matrix Chambers, London, which specialises in human rights law.
Blair specialises in employment, discrimination and public law, and in this capacity has sometimes represented claimants taking cases against the British Government.
Isn't it interesting? I love to hear what she can contribute to the case laws in Malaysia.
