Court renovated to usher-in a new magistrate

She will be the envy of all Magistrates, including High Court judges, Appeal Court and Federal Court judges.

At 22 years old, and just graduated last month, she had been appointed as the State's first woman magistrate.

Not only that, the Kota Baru court buildings had been renovated to usher her installation.

Walkways and bathrooms were being renovated in anticipation of the appointment of the State’s first woman magistrate, who is expected to be none other than the daughter of Sultan of Kelantan Sultan Ismail Petra.

Tengku Amalin A’ishah Putri, who turns 22 on June 26, is expected to report for duty at her post some time next week.

She is the youngest of the Sultan’s four children.

Court officials have remained tight-lipped, while palace officials have refused to comment.

Once Tengku Amalin takes up the post, she will join the ranks of other notable royals who have served in the judiciary such as Sultan of Perak Sultan Azlan Shah, a former Lord President of the Federal Court (formerly, the Supreme Court). I am sure, she will emulate the Perak Sultan and excel in her work. God bless her and guide her.

Life is all about fate and predestination.

The princess, Sultan Ismail Petra’s only daughter, graduated from the International Islamic University last month with a bachelor’s degree in Law.

To be a magistrate, you don't need a Certified Legal Practitioner (CLP) accreditation.

All law graduates from local public university are exempted from such certification exercise. Only those who graduate from foreign universities, including Ivy League U must go through the CLP certification to be admitted by the Bar Council before you can practice as a lawyer in Malaysia. Even Cherie Booth is not qualified by the Malaysian Bar Council to represent her client Fauziah in the Metramac case.

In Malaysian Courts, it had been observed that litigation lawyers must attached the legal cases cited in their submission as the judges may have difficulty to find their existence or in certain cases, they may not know there exist such case, particularly, those Common Law cases from United Kingdom. We had to take the presumption that they fully understand those doctrines and jurisprudence.

How many lawyers currently practising had paid for their licence?

Have any one of them become judges?
