Mawi's Love Dilemma

In the beginning...

It all began from here...

Mawi became the popular choice for the children.

They love him and adored him.

They began to worship him as an idol, someone they would like to imitate.

However, the road to fame is thorny and bumpy. Mawi's problem began with the Crisis in Mawi fan club

Feeling they were not getting enough attention from their idol, key officials of the Mawi Fan Club quit their posts, and the singer's management team is upset by the move.

SMS that propelled Mawi to fame through Akademi Fantasia 3 was utilised by Mawi fans to criticise him about gossip linking him with charming singer/actress Diana Rafar, another Diana.

Mawi denies the love triangle.

It all started from fishing trip with Diana Rafar. He personally delivered four catfish that he caught to Diana’s mother in Shah Alam, requesting her to turn them into an asam pedas dish. His fans demanded the “truth” from the couple. The Malay media then went to town with the story, implying that the “romantic liaison” has resulted in a love triangle. To end the rumours, Mawi has offered to apologise to Diana and her actor boyfriend Zamarul Hisham.

Mawi's fiancée Nordiana Mohd Naim, Lady Diana, was upset and felt the other Diana owed her an explanation. Diana said she wanted her name cleared and suggested that Mawi tie the knot with his fiancée.

Wow, it's now Lady Diana vs Lady Diana...

Then, news of Mawi postpones wedding was pronounced.

Mawi had earlier planned to take sweetheart Diana as his bride in June or by the end of the year, but the singer changed his mind and had deferred the wedding indefinitely. The two had been engaged since 2004. Mawi said he was not sure when he would marry and that the decision to postpone the wedding was made with the agreement of Noordiana’s parents.

It was reported later that it was Mawi's father who advised Mawi to put marriage on hold.

On July 1, it was reported in The Star that Mawi, has called off his engagement. Mawi have hinted this to Nor Diana during a telephone conversation between the duo. Mawi had told Ina to accept the decision which would be delivered to her by his eldest sister within the next two or three days.

Mawi was reported to have said: "Kalau aku terus dengan kau aku akan kehilangan keluarga dan tak ada sesiapa lagi dalam dunia ini" (If I continue to be with you I will end up losing my family and there will be no one else for me in this world).

Ina said although Mawi was not honest enough with her to directly make his point, "I feel that he wants to call off the engagement".

The father Ani Ahmad was quoted as saying, “I am the one who told him (to cancel the wedding). Let him focus on his career first.”

Soon, after his pronouncement, on July 2, Ani Ahmad died of heart attack (was this the case of his heart failure?? I suppose not.)

"Be a man and meet me face-to-face and tell me that our engagement is over," Lady Diana, also called, Ina tells Mawi.

Ina threw this challenge to Mawi in response to Mawi statement that they were not fated to be together.

Ina retorted: “Why is he afraid to meet me? Is there something he is hiding? I see no reason why he cannot meet me.”

In the report, Mawi claimed that Ina had pestered him to marry her. He said Ina called him several times when his father was in hospital, insisting on setting a wedding date. Mawi added that she had given him an ultimatum to set the date or she would walk out of the relationship. While Mawi might have publicly announced he no longer had feelings for his former sweetheart, Ina still insisted on seeing him for the last time. In an interview last week, Ina had promised to tell more about her strained relationship leading to the break-up with Mawi. However, Ina had said she would not be telling the story then out of respect for Mawi’s father, who died of a lung infection at the National Heart Institute on Saturday.

Has the new found fame and new found wealth taken over Mawi's fundamental lifestyle and brought radical change?

He was once (or is still) hailed him as a true blue kampung boy. Posters adorned stalls and restaurants and massive banners greeted visitors at the entrance to the Felda settlement in Johor where his family and fiancee lived. Not a negative word was uttered against him. Now, ....

His Kampung people in Felda believed that fame was the cause of the strained relationship, but they were horrified at how he handled the break-up. None was more upset than Nor Diana’s father, Mohd Naim Samijan, 51. He described Mawi’s decision to call off his engagement over the telephone as crude and uncouth. However, he accepted Mawi’s decision. "At least now I know that Mawi prefers to be separated from Nor Diana," he said.

Mawi also came in for some heavy criticism from Johor State Legislative Speaker Datuk Ali Hassan who had described the singer as a role model to young Johoreans at last year’s State Assembly meeting. At that time, he had said Mawi and his family should remain humble. Ali said Mawi did not even have a proper job when Nor Diana’s family accepted him. He said now that Mawi had been torched by fame, he should not treat the engagement lightly. "Mawi has portrayed himself to his fans as an entertainer with a religious background, therefore he should be thinking this over calmly and not rush into a decision." Ali, who even recited a pantun (poem) at the State Assembly meeting last year in support of Mawi, said that Mawi should be decent about how he handled the matter.

Back in Mawi’s village, a close friend of the singer, known as Ramli, is among those who is angry with Mawi. "Maybe he has become too good for a kampung girl like Nor Diana." Ramli said Mawi had changed since becoming a superstar. "He was the one who wanted to marry Lady Diana. He had made the pledge to his fans and to the Tunku Mahkota Johor that he would remain loyal and marry Nor Diana. "Why is he suddenly blaming it on other things?"

A neighbour, meanwhile, said Mawi and Nor Diana were very close, but after winning Akademi Fantasia last August, fame took over. "Mawi became distant, not just to Diana, but to the rest of us as well. He gradually became a stranger in the village," she said. "Mawi has portrayed himself as a singer with a religious background, but his actions have proved otherwise. He should be responsible and not treat the matter so flippantly."

Another neighbour, who gave her name as Lin, said Mawi should have treated Nor Diana with more respect.

Tok Guru, Nik Aziz, advised Mawi to preserve his wholesome image. This was because Mawi’s personality had endeared him to his many fans and he was viewed as a role model for youths. It was for these reasons that he was invited by the Kelantan State Government to perform in Kota Baru in October to mark the declaration of the city as an Islamic city.

"In the past, I thought of Mawi as a teen idol in the performing arts, and I hope he continues to preserve his image as a role model," said Nik Aziz. "Let his actions, including what he does in his personal life and in his professional endeavours, be an example to youths."

End of the story... No More!!!!

i tend to agree with ali in a way. we don't really know the actual true situation. just because mawi is the popular one, everybody seems to blame him. anyway, as ali said, this is their personal problem,so let them be, whydo we need to talk so much about it. i find it strange that we like to be busy-bodies or curious kitty to want to find out and talk aboout stars' personal life - like the affair of siti and her datuk k - why is the paper like to headline this or report it now and then.

sigh. that's human nature at work.what to do. once a person is popular, everybody wants to have something to read/say of her/him.

oh yeah yes ali had disappeared all together from my blog too. mana pi, eh ali? will you be back at blogs to comment?
