Look at the conditions she faced? She had to study with candle lights.
Her father earns about RM300 every month and spends RM15 monthly to buy candles so his children can study at night.
Her name is Has. She is an Orang Asli, a bumi. Her father, Hariff Chiyok is a rubber tapper and her mother is Chu Derging. Has' is among the five orang asli pupils in Perak to score 5As in this year’s UPSR examination.
They never cried uneven playing fields in education. They received no financial aids. Yet she scored perfect straight As.
Look at her house? It's dilapidated.
Now, after her results is known, two boarding schools are prepared to offer her a place for her secondary education. She has, however, declined the offers as she wanted to help her family who is living in poverty. I always thought the govt provides aids to those who lives below the stated poverty level. Alas, not true.
Perak State Education director Datuk Mohammed Zakaria Mohd Noor paid a visit to her house. Mohammed Zakaria, who presented food and financial help to the family as well as certificates of achievement to Has, was astounded when he saw the girl’s studying conditions.
“She has so much self-discipline, commitment and belief in herself,” Mohammed Zakaria said.
When he asked Has what inspired her to study hard, the girl replied:
“I know that if I study hard, I will be able to give my family a better life.”
I really admired her. Inside me, I felt ashamed that the poor are neglected and there are so much cries for NEP over the last 30 years and yet, these Bumis are totally neglected till today.

I wonder that latuk zakaria blush or not when the girl say it. Oh, wait, their face so thick that bullet cannot penetrate.
There are thoudsands if not tens of thousands of Has out there.
The rich is getting richer and the poor forever poor.
She is orang asli...she is not bumi.
Wait...before you shoot me check the status of bumiputera. I had a shock of my life when i found out. Orang Asli dont fall under teh bumiputera catergory. only orang asal of Sabah and Sarawak...penan,iban etc
Anonymous,
Orang Asli are Bumiputeras. The same goes for Iban, Kadazan, Dayaks and those natives from Sabah and Sarawak. Bumi also include those portugese from Melaka. I think you can check with the govt. In fact, they are the pure bumis.
I'm sorry but i got my facts mixed up..i checked with the person whom i had heard it from and he replied saying bumis is a political term hence all including orang asli are considered bumis.
However interstingly he said
"In the constitution, however, those who are accorded 'special status' are the Malays and the natives of Sabah and Sarawak only. The Orang Asli are not expressedly mentioned or listed as such. This is what is normally meant when it is said that the Orang Asli are left out of the constitution."
