Malaysian Parliament declared a Zoo

NST, April 5, 2007

"Wild Animals in Parliament?"

That's the headline at page 12, Prime News, NST

Abstract:

[Quote]

"There are Orang Utan, Samseng, Mental Patients and Wild Men in Parliament.

...this is at least the impression one would have got listening to members of parliament lashing out at each other.

A group of students from Kajang High School have understandably left the parliament house with questions about the composition of the house (of commons).

[Unquote]

What have our parliamentarians portrayed themselves to the world at large and in particular, to the Malaysian public who had voted them and placed them as the nation's law-maker?

Rightly, NST called the parliamentarians, Wild Animals.

So, we had elected, not humans, to represent the people of the nation, but, wild animals.

Azmi Sharom, in his article, The Civil Court Must Decide (April 5th, 2007, The Star, Views, page N49) posed the question at his first line: What kind of country do you want to live in?

My poser is two possibility: A democracy where we gave the power to legislate to a bunch of monkeys and Orang Utans, or a democracy that values human dignity where we have a say in the way our lives are to be governed, and include the laws that rule us?

In Azmi's words, the power lies with the rakyat. We have put these animals in position of power and only we can vote them out. Until this happens, we will have to let the animals continue to monkey around and continue to make us fools.

Malaysians deserve tha "animals" they voted in. But why demean the animals, wild or domestic? Wild animals (which Dr Lim Kheng Yaik equate politicians to wild animals)is grossly unfair to animals. Why? Because wild animals hunt cos of survival. Politicians hunt cos of greed and crave for power compared to animals instinctively fighting over territorial "food hunting grounds'. No! Politicians should not be equated with wild animals. It's an insult to animals. politicians are like "poltergeists" ; remember the movie, "The Exorcist". At best, they are like "bacteria". Afterall, there are good and bad bacteria. So those Malaysians who voted BN into power deserve the "poltergeists" they voted in. So don't whine like wild animals.

Why not we look at it in positive way?

Why not train them and enhance further their skills so at least we can make it a world class circus? This will in line to promote tourism industry.
