SHAH ALAM: Selangor is aiming to compete with Singapore "apple to apple" in five years.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo said Selangor was not much different from Singapore except that it lagged in public transportation and IT facilities, and urban services quality. “Once we are more efficient in public transportation and improve our broadband services as well as the urban services quality, Selangor and Singapore can compete apple to apple. “We are also improving our port and airport services,” he said after launching a seminar on generating and increasing knowledge among principals and headmasters in Selangor at Dewan Jublic Perak here Monday.

Today, the report changed to:
Khir: We have a good quality of life

SELANGOR can be compared to Singapore in terms of development, economy and the quality of life of its people, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo said. He said the only things Selangor lagged behind in were public transport, IT facilities and urban services.

“Once we are more efficient in public transportation and improve our broadband services as well as public service, Selangor and Singapore can compete apple to apple.

“We are also improving our port and airport services,” he said after launching a seminar on enhancing knowledge among principals and headmasters in Selangor at Dewan Jublic Perak in Shah Alam yesterday.

Dr Khir said both Selangor and Singapore have populations of about six million people, with a two million foreign population.

“We are working hard to improve our overall quality of life,” he said.

“We are afraid that if we move too fast into high technology without adequate skilled manpower, foreigners may take over our jobs,” he said.

Dr Khir also said the state government would be putting more effort into improving the service industry.

As of year 2000, the service industry contributed 28% to the state’s economy and it had increased to 38% at present, he said, adding that the state targeted 45% next year.

Dr Khir also urged the residents of Selangor to vote.

“I am just asking for one minute from you on March 8 to cast the vote and I’ll pay back with five years of good service,” he said.

He said that education required improvment as the number of students in Selangor had increased so rapidly that some schools had more than 50 students in each class.

“We have spoken to the Education Ministry and we hope that the ministry will consider our plight objectively because the situation in Selangor is different from other states,” he said, adding that many people came from other states to work in Selangor.

He added that Selangor would have more new schools soon in high-populated areas and new housing estates.

Christina Tan, what happen to you? Did Wong Chun Wai asked you to re-write?

Normally the Barisan Nasional Govt always compare that we are better than Ghana, Uganda, Liberia (with respect to those countries)...and "we are the best and Singapore is just a small dot"(to quote one of the BN idiot).

Suddenly AAB woke up and noticed we have a red dot that is an apple? Go back to sleep..so that the shit that comes out from your mouth don't offend our southern neighbours..who knows..if they get angry you may not be invited to their golf games.

The Javanese Toyol says:"...and I’ll pay back with five years of good service"
What he means is that he wants five more years to fill up his overseas bank vaults

Barisan Rakyat,

Thanks for your participation.

You did pose some good question. There's no comparison; and there's no need to compare as Selangor or any other states are way behind.

Artchan,

I think AAB is still sleeping...

can selangor compete "apple to apple" in making selangor safe? more like comparing rotten apples to glistening moist apples. ha!

instead of the facilities required which inturn would be siphoned off from tapayers money, selangor should address the issue of making selangor safe and FRUITFUL for everyone (and not just the "Be End" majority).

ps. doc, happy chap goh meh!

maverick/ barisan rakyat,
you must understand that Genting and the american are investing billions in Singapore to build a casino. One condition imposed by the Singa Govt was it must not solely about casino but it must come with a theme park/recreation.

Now, you think we will be allowed to have another casino in Malaysia? The moment the Govt allows one in Selnagor, then you will see the next fed govt be in the hand of PAS if not a gurannted PAS govt in Selangor.

Jason,

Congrats to your extra cash; but I don't need the money as I am a Hermit.

dee3,

Ya, Selangor can; we have more than Singapore; more means boleh, irrespective.

Selangor is safe, safe for the MB and Zakaria; only children not safe but that's Sharizat's problem, not Toyo's.

Warrior2,

PAS can never rule Selangor irrespective. PAS chance is Kelantan, Trengganu or possibly Kedah or Perlis; and nowhere else irrespective. And we don't need a casino in Selangor as there are many mini-casinos in Selangor, if you don't already know; it's factual.
