Chinese MB for Perak?

Latest news from Malaysiakini

New Perak MB by end week

The DAP-PKR-PAS coalition has submitted an official list of candidates to Perak Sultan Azlan Shah.

The list was handed over to the Sultan’s secretary at 2pm today by a tripartite delegation, and the Ruler is expected to make an announcement within the next two days.

At a joint press conference, DAP chairperson Ngeh Khoo Ham confirmed that each party has submitted one name.

They are Ngeh himself who is Sitiawan assemblyperson, Pasir Panjang assemblyperson Mohamad Nizar Jamaludin and PKR’s Behrang assemblyperson Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi.

“All three parties have unanimously agreed that we will fully endorse the Sultan’s choice,” said Ngeh, speaking for coalition.

Under the state constitution, the Mentri Besar has to be a Malay Muslim, but there is a provision that allows the Sultan to waive the requirement.

Mohamad Nizar, 51, is the front-runner as he has academic credentials and ranks high in the PAS Perak hierarchy.

DAP today gave the assurance to the Sultan of Selangor that the the party can work with Parti Keadilan Rakyat and Pas to form the state government during an audience today with the ruler.

The DAP, represented by Kinrara assemblywoman Teresa Kok, spent 45 minutes with the Ruler at the Istana Kayangan here.

She said the Sultan wanted to know from the two parties that they can work with PKR.

The Sultan is concerned with a three-party government and wanted assurances that they can work together,” Teresa said. “Tuanku also wanted to know if DAP supported PKR’s candidate Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim as the new Selangor Menteri Besar."

The position of deputy Menteri Besar was not discussed with the Sultan.

Asked if the DAP can cooperate with Pas, she said: ”We have formed the government, haven’t we? That shows we can work together.”

Remarks: Below are absolute unfounded and unsubstantiated rumours!

Unconfirmed and rumours from Perak:

It was rumoured that the Sultan of Perak had decided to exercise his executive power provided under the state constitution to allow a Chinese to be Mentri Besar. That means the DAP Perak chief secretary Nga Kor Ming Ngeh Khoo Ham would be appointed MB.

I do not rejoice because the MB is Chinese. I will only rejoice if the MB is a true Malaysian, working to unite and prosper every Malaysians. But if the rumour is true, it must mean that the Sultan of Perak is effecting the first high level initiative in driving the nation towards a Malaysia of Malaysians, and of which will derive an integrated Bangsa Malaysia.

It was also rumoured that the Sultan of Selangor had also onsented to the appointment of Khalid as MB of Selangor and Teresa Kok as deputy MB.

Unconfirm. Anybody has any news?

I think this is a golden opportunity for the Sultans of Perak and Selangor to break the "Ketuanan Melayu" fallacy and to push fwd the concept of Bangsa Malaysia in order for all of us to move twds dismantling race/religion based politics and segregation.

It is one small step towards identifying all of us as Malaysians and eventually do away with having to tick a small box marked "Melayu/Cina/India/Lain-Lain" in all forms and manner.

Mav, it is not half cup empty, it is half cup full!

The Sultans have chosen to be color blind and selected across racial prejudices! This is wonderful example set by the Sultans!

If BR want to put a final blow to MIC, just nominate DAP jailed Hindraf MP as deputy MB. It will give MIC a heart attack.

IMHO, Teresa Kok should reject it despite call from her supporter. It is not wise to held too many post, even she can be the first female MB in Malaysia. Unless she want to compete ranks with BN multiple post minister.

Anak Merdeka,

It it truly happens, Malaysia will be on the road to integration to become a single community.

Jefus,

It's a rumour and nobody can confirm. I read the news just now and there's nothing reported. As such, it must be false.

Hasilox,

Yes, we need an MB who cares for everyone, and practice a fair, just and equitable system to benefit all and at the same time they must be conscious of the customs and conventions.

Acidic Sports,

Ya, that's Teng Hsiao Peng black and white cat while yours is rat. You are damn creative.

Moo_t,

I do not agree that giving Manoharan the DMB post is beneficial to the nation as a whole. It will make Hindraf more greedy for power and thus breed a new group of mercenaries in Malaysia. What is important is to pay attention to the points raised by Hindraf and act affirmatively to help the Indians who are poor and who needs assistance; not by bowing to their greed and bulimic expectations.

Denzook,

I think Ngeh is MP and Nga is DUN.

what makes teresa is more qualify than teng ? teng had been up and down in DUN, and even helped the DUN drafted a bill. so why teng is sidelined to make way for teresa.

ngeh contestd both parliament and dun. i thot initially that MP contested in parlimen not allowed to become MB or deputy ?

Denzook,

You are right; Ngeh contested in both. I'm not sure why many in DAP are against Teng. If ever Teresa is made DMB, I think Kit Siang must have thought over it and had selected wisely. let's trust Kit Siang's wisdom.

Lim Guan Eng and Khalid Ibrahim both won their parliamenary seats and state seats. So no issue for Ngeh too.

Talking about experience, Teng is more experienced of course, as this is his third term in ADUN although he is suspended for around 2.5 years, if I not mistaken last term. Teresa is very capable, I can confirm that, she serves in my area.

This is not to speculate just my personal opinion, maybe Kit Siang see Teresa is the best candidate to handle this post. Bear in mind, the task is not just to be Deputy, but to be PR to handle/maintain the three-party government so that they can function well together as a team.

Yes. No need for a Chinese MB. He just have to be a good one and be fair to all.

I don;t see why Teng is sidelined for Teresa. Is this another DAP infighting ? Teresa is used to be MP, and I disagree of having MP and DUN for deputy MB. Why not of having DUN only for MB/deputy MB, imagine the MB has to absent him/herself in parliament for the sake to tend state affair. The oppos in parliament is not majority and it is prefereable to have oppos to fully attend the parlimen to debate country's affair. I'm fine with Khalid to be MB, but not teresa. It should be Teng to be deputy MB unless he himself decline the offer.

Bayi,

I agree that there is no need for a Chinese MB. But to effect a truly Bangsa Malaysia, we have to destroy and dismantle the phobias and paranoias. Without an exceptional event such as having a Chinese MB we will not see change, and witness change; to me, if would be gracious for the Malays to support a Chinese MB who can prove that a Chinese MB can serve the Malays better, make them more prosperous and capable, and help them eliminate their phobias and inferior complex. But that Chinese Mb must have such virtue and selflessness; I'm not sure DAP have such a person.

Denzook,

You may not know who is Teng; I won't speculate but I think Kit Siang has the wisdom.
