Pak Lah: Equality is not necessarily fair

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said: "please remember that equality does not always mean fairness."

“Equal distribution is not necessarily fair if the fate of the underprivileged is not taken care of and their rights not defended."

“I am not just talking about bumiputras. I am also referring to the Chinese and Indian communities.”

“Much has been said about the New Economic Policy and I want to stress that we want to eradicate poverty regardless of race, ensure equal opportunities for all races and work to improve the economy and ensure equal distribution of wealth,” he said, adding that Umno representatives would play an effective role as the state's Opposition.

“All the 11 state assemblymen are Umno members but they represent all Barisan component parties.

“Now they have a bigger responsibility not only to their constituents but also to be an effective Opposition in the state assembly.

“Your role is to defend the rights of all – not just the Malays. You must stay true to the Barisan spirit,” he said.

“If we can do this, together we will emerge victorious in the next general election."

Source: TheStar Online: Pak Lah: Ensuring equality not enough

Dear Prime Minister, I have to agree with you in total. Your statements are profound and full of intellectualism and idealism, but it is profound and it conforms to the rule of law and the rule of natural justice.

But can I asked why Barisan Nasional are not practising what you preached? It's Cakap Tak Serupa Bikin. You state here in no uncertain words that the NEP is to eradicate poverty regardless of race, ensuring equal opportunities of all races and ensuring equal distribution of wealth. Please Mr PM, tell me and give me one factual evidence that the NEP had been carried out in the manner of what you had preached. I give you a few pointers:

  1. All the APs were given to Bumiputeras to import cars without paying duties. Name me one non-Bumi businessman who was given APs to import cars for retailing or distribution. I have the full list of all those who received APs as it was published and I had kept it for your record.
  2. Name me a Class F contractor who is a non-Bumi?
  3. Name me a PWD-DBT contract that was awarded to a ordinary non-Bumi contractor or even a crony contractor?
  4. Tell me why Petronas employs more than 95% Bumiputeras with the balance mostly expatriates?
  5. Tell me why I can't be enrolled at UiTM? I tried and they rejected me and informed me that I am not a Muslim Malay. I said to the officer that probably I am only one Chinese and 99.99% of the others are Malays but they said "Sorry, I can't change the rule."
  6. Tell me why those non-Bumis who are also poor cannot buy house with 15% discount if NEP is to eradicate poverty irrespective of race? Tell me also why we poor non-Bumis cannot subscribed to Amanah Saham Nasional and other benefits 100% reserved for Bumis?
We are happy you exclude the rich Chinese and Indians from all these benefits but tell me why rich Malays have the same rights and privileges to all these benefits which were supposed to eradicate poverty irrespective of race? Many of the recipients of the benefits of the NEP are wealthy Malays and that include Kamaladdin and Khairy, Mukhriz, Mokhzani, and we hear from Khairy that your son bought you a house in Australia for RM60 million.

You said: “Equal distribution is not necessarily fair if the fate of the underprivileged is not taken care of and their rights not defended" but show me evidence that the underprivileged non-Bumis were taken care of and their rights are defended by Umno. We have factual evidence of all the Umno General Assembly debates where non of your leaders had stood up to defend their rights, the rights of the poor and underprivileged non-Bumis. We had not once hear of any Umno members at Umno AGM that had spoken up for the non-Bumi underprivileged. Show us your words are words of integrity, not mere rhetorics, not talking cock!

If Pak Lah continues talking like that, its not the public who will show him the exit, it will be his own political party who will show him the door.

He is definitely not helping his own political career. Ho hum maybe its for the better,....

cakap mesti bikin siap siap said...

PM, why don't you take a taxi tommorrow (preferably with Malay taxi driver), you ask the driver whether NEP is fair or not? Ask them about taxi licence, I am sure your journey will be well rewarded by the taxi driver's feedback. Tak payah susah susah create itu www.warkahuntukpm. com.my

PM, you are full of contradictions.

The political tsunami has send you sufficient notice.

The abuses of NEP implementation over the years by some elite UMNOputras is one of the reason we (Malay, Chinese, Indians) voted against BN at this election.

You just said few days ago you have noted the points of defeat.

And now (just within tens of hour) you switch back again in denial mode.

Cakap you memang putar belit.

i. BN lost 5 states + Wilayah
ii. The Sultans have snubbed you in 2 states' MB appointment
iii. The King also snubbed you
iv. Your own 3 Deputy Ministers have snubbed YOUR Idris Jusoh
v. UMNO supreme council also snubbed you on postponement of AGM

Cukup Lah!

Kami Sudah Bosan Lah!
Bangun Lah!
Tidur terlalu lama tidak baik untuk kesihatan mu!

Your comments are spot on.

The PM should have just kept his mouth shut instead of putting his foot in.

Go and check out whether those mentioned in your list is UMNO Malays or Normal Malays. You may be shocked with the results of your research.

I think these days, it is about class struggle than anything else. No longer about racial struggle.

Pak Lah better just close mouth and sit there like Statue for homage of his cults (so to speak); better still negotiate with Shaari of Darul Arqam for next line Arqam's leadership. After the Terengganu fiasco, I wonder how he still got face to be up there and talk...

Correct, correct, correct.. What you say and what Pak Lah said are all correct.

So stop picking on NEP as the issue, it is its execution,

Why automotive industry given only to Malays? Why are Malays prevented from participating alcohol and gaming industries?

I do not think all that really matters. What matter should be executing the divisions and monitoring the overall statitics so that the economy is balanced.

What we need is a look at the statistic and formulate the numbers.

Why can't you go into UiTM? Cuz you Chinese, that's why. No offence intended but there are other options like UniTAR etc.

Non-Malays discriminated? Yes and no. No cuz I went to school overseas where an Indian was sponsored by the government.

And no, PETRONAS is not 95% bumiputra. Nowadays, maybe 75%. And why is Bursa Malaysia suddenly filled with Indians. One look at Bursa and you'd think what the hell is HINDRAF all about.

We all know how to talk but we hardly put our brains to work. There is really nothing wrong with our country except that we need to get rid of the so called democratic system in place.

Once we can come up with a more democratic system of government, abuses will automatically go and the politicians will be too busy on politics than their own 'business.'

Multi racial based parties ke race-based parties ke or communist parties, or right wing extremist parties, who cares if democracy works.

CMBSS,

Oh, PM is consistent!

Purple Haze,

I think we had a good PM.

Sagaladoola,

My observation and hypothesis is that what I wrote and belief.

Bayi,

Oh, he knows and he knows what's the right thing to do except he can't do it right because of his SIL.

Gukita,

Pak Lah is a good man but surrounded and adviced by devillians.

NEP is a "license" for the rich to rob from the poor.

At the end of the day is money = power. Money is the root of all evils

Bad-awi is just doing his rounds like any faithful UMNOputra would in redefining what is fair and what is not, according to his own skewered worldiew.

Mahathir, the unfairest of them all, also spewed much drivels about 'fairness', usually accusatively.

To some people's perspective, fairness and justice may be subjective things but they sure like to forget that human morality is governed by the Golden Rule of mankind, namely, "Do unto others as you would others do unto you."
You cannot succeed when you divert too much from that for too long - something UMNO is hell bent on doing in claiming supremacism. That's one damn good moral reason for its impending demise.
