The Rise of Narcissism

Victorious Independent candidate for Bukit Selambau state seat in Perlis, V.Arumugam said he would join PKR if the newly formed Kedah state government agrees to appoint him a state executive councillor.

"I will do that in the interest of the Indian community and the people who voted for me," he said.

Last time we hear of Malays who demand rights and privilege in the name of their religion and community. Now we have a new wave of narcissism where an Indian demands to be given a state minister post in the name of their community.

When I read this news, I was relieved; because I thought he had demanded to be made the Mentri Besar of Kedah so that he can act in the interest of the community.

The demise of MIC will see a new wave of Indian Rightists in the coming times. I hope the Chinese who have gone to the elections with an aspiration of a better Malaysia, the hope of a more prosperous nation based on the promise of a corrupt free legislators, a clean govt, a stronger and independent judiciary, a clean and honest police, and intelligent and virtuous legislative assembly, will not be clamoring for power and fame. The new Barisan Rakyat and those elected Chinese in general can play their effective roles of check and balance and cooperate with the ones that were mandated to be executives. They can be king-makers and the protectors of democracy and the peoples' rights and liberty. They need not be Mentri Besar; they can still play an effective role as executive councillors and in some positions with the municipal councils. With the greater number of seats at the legislative assembly, the DAP can play a great role within the government of the day, rather than as an opposition.

4th Floor boys are more powerful than 5th floor PM and his ministers. That's the political philosophy of the day.

V.Arumugam would had joined BN but for the fact that BN Kedah lacks the numbers to make up the state govt. This type of thambees are the disgrace of the indian race

No. That's not the case. There was a PKR candidate for the seat, then he was disqualified on a petty issue. MIC/BN wanted to take the seat. It was realised that the seat will fall since the PKR candidate hadn't processed some papers. An independent stood. PKR campaigned for him as well. Then he won. It is in Sungai Petani area where Zam was whitewashed. So, one way or another, he is joining his original party, I would say.

Dato' Anuar Tan of Kelantan won by 5,206 compared to only 34 in 2004. Race is not the issue.

And I thought we are done with racial issues...
Aren't we supposed to build up the country to benefit the people - not a single race?

Jefus,

The KLCI had to react naturally with the news and those counters that are have fundamentals based on political patronage would surely suffer the most.

Gukita,

In Kelantan, the Malays never felt threatened by any race and thus in the absence of Malayophobia racial issues are absent.

Warrior2,

It's not that! The demise of MIC would give rise to Hindrafians who would try to exert pressure on the BR coalition and hope to exude political positions to justify their cause. We should see a New Tamil Tigers breeding ground.

See Fei,

It wouldn't be; there will be more racial divide and more uncertainties.

Hopeful,

No, we have not done away; in fact we will see more complex issues being uprooted and more widespread. It now is left to BR to provide some kind of democratic leadership and directions. One way is to improve the management of the states and make life better for everyone. That way, it would reduce and contain the discontent of some.
