UMNO to cancel all Penang Mega Projects

Penang Umno to recommend stopping all state mega projects

Penang Umno will recommend to the Federal Government to stop all proposed mega projects in the state, include those planned under the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER), the second Penang Bridge, the light monorail transit system, the Penang Outer Ring Road, the Penang Sentral and the RapidPenang bus service.

State Umno secretary Datuk Azhar Ibrahim said the previous Gerakan-led state government had worked together with the federal government to bring all sorts of development to Penang.

"Since the people have clearly rejected development and made their choice for a change, we will recommend to the federal government to cancel all such projects. Don’t blame us for this," he said after a state liaison committee meeting here today.

Asked if this was Umno’s revenge, Azhar, who was appointed opposition chief, said: "This is not revenge…it is the new government's responsibility to bring development to the state. We have done so many things in the past but we were criticised…we were blamed for wasting this and wasting that.”

To another question if this would bring about any implications to the people, he said: "The people have chosen and they wanted a new leadership."

My Thoughts

I agree with Datuk Azhar Ibrahim. So what's the problem? If you think this is what UMNO wants, please go ahead.

Does he knows who gets hurt? All these projects were awarded to UMNO cronies - Penang Monorail will go to Scomi; Penang 2nd Bridge is given to UEM, RapidPenang is UMNO owned, and PGCC is Patrick Badawi. Please go ahead UMNO!!!

A good government never need federal govt financial assistance. They can get investors if they can give the confidence to investors that the investors will derive value and benefits. For example, Singapore had nothing when they left Malaysia. But now Singapore GIC have few hundred billions invested in so many countries. Today NST reported that Singapore GIC will invest RM5bil in Italian Sintonia SA based in Luxembourg.

All what Penang need is a clean, efficient and honest government leaders with a strong human capital base. The rest will be in place by natural process.

Apparently, UMNO don't understand economy and Chinese.

A confucisian Chinese will definitely failed economy, but not a Toist, especially those who also adapt Tao liberalism philosophy. (Lee Kwan Yew lies and misled people think of his "Confucian" way of ruling)

For example, if Penang government set up a bus company to provide bus services for Penang people, lots of people will buy the company stock.

"Mohd Ali said he would have to “think twice” with regard to new projects coming into the city as hopes of making it a more vibrant one had been dashed owing to DAP’s control of it.

“We wanted to develop it further but the rakyat is not so interested.

If there are new things (projects), maybe I have to think twice,” he said, adding that he would not shift projects which had been previously earmarked."

that was in Melaka three days ago. they will now realize their cash flow is severely affected,...

once they become mindful of their loss, they will see the magnitude.

Farewell to:
Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER),
Second Penang Bridge,
the light monorail transit system,
Penang Outer Ring Road (PORR,
Penang Sentral, & PGCC
RapidPenang bus service.
These projects will certainly not be missed, better to cancel them all with immediate effect.
AdiĆ³s! UMNO & cronies.

next election manifesto:

all residents/corporations shall not be required to pay taxes to the IRB. instead all payment must be made to the state.

all states will then allocate some of its revenue to help the federal government

howz that? just like UN huh.

nave a nice day.

go ahead. enough of your threats. fyi, i am a shareholder of scomi, and the share price has tank. but so be it. the people's interest must come first. the people's balls must be held by buffon politicians from BN. Go ahead, stop all the projects coz the largest losers will be GLCs and UMNO cronies.

Err.. these projects also not yet approved rite? Still wanna dance the same bluffs. lol

They should be worrying about how to compete with the BA in terms of good governance. Now people can make meaningful comparison already. Bullshits can't hold.

Cancel all the mega projects and the IRB will report a significant decline in tax collection next year. And...the Federal Gomen will be pokai! :)

But wait, still got Petronas. Now we know why oil & gas is a federal matter and not a state one!

penang cannot rely on federal to dish money and support. lge and his team should know this - they will have zero support from federal. the only way for penang is to be self-reliant, think like they have just gain independence, and rule like sgpura. if rapid penang to quit, fine, engage other transport company or even encourage entrepreneur to start one. or penang state to start one like sgpura last time with SBS before privatize. you know thos umno goons, they know nothing to help malaysians, they are very happy to see penang suffer and teach penangnites a good lesson when they vote gerakan out - padan muka. lge and his team cannot lobby federal to help them - it'll just waste time and effort only.

HAVE FAITH IN PENANG LANG, A RESILIENT LOT... IF DAP ARE SINCERE, I BET MY LAST DOLLAR THEY WILL BACK LGE ALL THE WAY.

one thing for sure, pg peeple will tell that azhar guy,

hope this nincompoop understand the implication of his remarks... 'bodoh mia olang, otak pendek'.

<-- not revenge?... memang revenge pun...Azhar just BSing only

but then again since all those mega projects are cancelled, all the UMNO cronies will suffer.even better.

let them cronies suffer.

duh, is it possible to hire back that koh tsu koon as an penang adviser. this guy oledi quit i think, so no more political affiliation. even he's still gerakan member, lge may different in political view, but probably share opinion on economic and initiative to push penang for greater good. and koh has been CM for 15 yrs, sure his expertise and view on penang is valuable, unlike that AAB who is dispensable anytime......

They want to withdraw so that they will not be audited by the new Government!

But some cannot escape!
The Second Bridge is under construction and as usual, the sub-contractor is working!
The Rapid already in Penang since last year with problems.

Penangites will be much happy to get replacement or even to wait if better one can be expected as Rapid Penang went to Penang without the necessary transparency!!
http://penangwatch.net/node/800

THE KEY POINT OF HAVING FOREIGN INVESTMENT MAY BE HINDERED BY THE NEED OF APPROVAL BY BANK NEGARA WHICH IS UNDER UNMO/BN, I SUPPOSE?

DAP,as long as Transparency, Accountability and efficient can be seen, (without possible hindrance from UNMO/BN), Penang will be a much better place to stay and business!

Is Penang out of Cash from last Government??
DAP please open up the Financial situation of Penang!
People will surely support if DAP care to plug the loopholes and has a mean to recover from those Cans of Worms!!

But, will ACA and Court works?

What can be seen is UNMO is trying to pull the legs of DAP in Penang!!

A Gentleman's ACT?
Even at this moment, UNMO cannot realize what is the Duty of a Federal Government!!

Shameful, Regretful!!

Mr Penang UMNO Secretary,

Nobody is against development if they are really for the benefits of the rakyat. What the rakyat does not want is "diBOLOTment" by certain quarters.

On more thing, you think only UMNO Penangites pay taxes? Kalau duit mak bapak hang sorang bolehlah cakap macam tu.

Sepatutnya you cakap, UMNO/BN harus berbuat yang betul lain kali supaya tidak ditolak rakyat.

Ada faham kah?

as a penangite, what the hell i care if all the mega projects are cancel!! all the better, as mave rightly pointed out - it's the UMNO cronies who will get hurt, not us penangites!

we don't need all those mega projects anyway. apart from contract for UMNO cronies only, the project will only benefit rich rakyat in penang... not average income earner like me, and most certainly not the poor people.

i hope penang new state government will come up with worthwhile projects that will benefit everyone , not only the rich.

The title should be changed. UMNO has no authority to cancel projects.

I find most of you including mav to be so simplistic in your thinking and arguments!

But then, from the way you see this thing, I can't agree less. You are right, go ahead.. terminate those bloody contract that only benefits the greedy giant!

Jefus,

This is the sign of obscured brain which lacks acumen.

Mindful Mariner,

Bet with me; all those projects needs funding and the govt do not have those funds. EPF was suppose to fund it via PFI and EPF is having difficulty to come up with a viability report. Unless foreign funders comes in, the project in itself will die a natural death, with or without Federal support.

That's not bitching; that's animal instinct; oh, female dog is an animal; you're right.

Penang govt must now show the way of good management and good governance.

Let those political morons speak; what they are saying is, let them continue to enjoy the gravy train.

Denzook,

I believe Penang under the last govt is doing ok.

Sharing,

For as long as those in the BN don't learn and don't understand the fundamentals of the roles and responsibilities of government, they will keep talking as if they personally own the government, and as if it is their own property.

Lucia,

Observed the Taiwan economic model and how they developed their economy using the concept of cottage industry. Penang will prosper using this model.

Warrior2,

You are right; I'm simplistic thinking and use simplistic argument. I don't need to be complex; I'm trained in business management and I'm also the consultants to some of these projects. My income will be hurt, but my client will be damned bcoz of their mammoth borrowing and cost of acquiring those projects. The amount of financial contributions for this election is huge. I'm sure you can understand.

Terang Bulan,

Read my explanation above.

Warrior2,

I don't think the voters need your advice; they made their decision and they know the consequences and will be willing to accept it. I hope you understand democracy and liberty.

Jefus,

We need not be harsh. There are the realities of politics and we must live to accept differences in ideology and determinism. It is part and parcel of a plural society and no exception to any other society.

BNs ex leaders of the Penang state who is now the opposition has finally and openly demonstrated in Penang. their arrogance and the peabrains in them. They have made this public display of the way they were governing Penang in the past. They governed the people by threats and intimidation.
Let us remind these peabrainers that they are the discards. Penangites have demonstrated that they are beyond intimidation and threats.
Except for the bridge and the public bus systems(public investment by the way) the rest of the Mega project are not welcomed by the public in Penang. They will be doing Penang a favour if they can take the project along with them. Anyway the projects were awarded to favour their families and friends.

Geronimo said...

"UMNO to cancel all Penang Mega Projects". Since when is UMNO the government to announce such a decision. Shouldn't it read "BN to cancel all Penang Mega Projects". Where is MCA, MIC, Gerakan, PPP, PBS, etc when such a unilateral move was announced? So we were right all along. UMNO call the shots and the others are just merely window dressing.

Often we forget the little guy, the SMB, in our discussions of the comings and goings of the Internet marketing industry. Sure there are times like this when a report surfaces talking about their issues and concerns but, for the most part, we like to talk about big brands and how they do the Internet marketing thing well or not so well.
