Nazri Aziz's Sun now starts to sets in the West too.

Nazri: We may see end of NEP

The election results signal the beginning of the possible demise of the New Economic Policy (NEP) and special rights for the Malays, said Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz. Nazri said it appeared that the Malays, especially in the town areas, had become more confident now and felt they could compete with the other races on a level playing field.

“We (Umno) have to really sit down and think. It looks like the educated Malays do not care about Malay rights anymore,” he said when contacted. “The Malay doctors, lawyers, engineers feel they have made it on their own merit. “It looks like the NEP is not something that can be used to persuade the Malays to support the Barisan Nasional.

“The Malays are saying ‘you can’t scare us by talking about us losing our rights, because we are here on our own merit’.”

Nazri said it looked like some Malays felt that the NEP was unfair, and questioned why special rights should be given to the Malays.

He described the new confidence among the Malays as good for the Malay psyche.

Nazri, who retained his Padang Rengas parliamentary seat by a majority of 1,749 votes, said he barely survived the political tsunami. He said the youngsters – Chinese, Indians and Malays – who returned from Kuala Lumpur to vote in Perak had tried to persuade their parents, who are Barisan supporters, to either not go out to vote or vote for the Opposition. “I only survived because of my personal touch with the voters,” he said.

He believed the political landscape in the country had changed irreversibly and that all parties would now have to work harder. “Every wakil rakyat will have to work to win the hearts of the people. This is good for Malaysia because, at the end of the day, it is the rakyat who benefits,” he said.

My Thoughts

Nazri is half right. Many Malays still need economic assistance and help. They also need to eradicate the inferior complexes and destructive narcissistic characteristics. Affirmative actions and guidance from the government is necessary. But it is not the NEP of the day; it is economic policies that ensures that only those poor and needy people are given assistance; not those millionaires who aspires to be billionaires. The Malays need educational assistance; commercial and business skills and guiding hands in partaking in the distribution of the economic opportunity.

That does not mean spoon-feeding; it's what the proverbs says: "Give them a fish and they eat for a day. Teach them to fish and they eat a lifetime."

And a good government will take care of all the people who needs assistance.

The freeloaders have started to wail. If they cannot hide behind NEP, looting is more difficult.

Who are the bastards who kept humiliating the malays. Malays can't do this, can't do that. One thing the freeloaders hope the malays to keep on doing is to keep on paying to enrich the freeloaders.

The Umnoputra rent seekers typically operate this way:

"While previous UMNO or Barisan chief ministers would readily kow tow to Abdullah (after all he appointed them), the likes of Khalid Ibrahim (Chief Minister of Selangor) or Lim Guan Eng ( Penang ) would have no such deference. They would demand, among other things, that the various contracts be subjected to competitive biddings. That would immediately dry up the hitherto steady stream of bounties that used to flow the way of UMNO cronies.

Those previously fat UMNO cats would quickly be reduced to angry and hungry mangy felines, viciously fighting each other up for the rapidly dwindling morsels.

An UMNO Mat Deros who could previously have bulldozed his way through the local council or state government merely by showing those cowed officials pictures of him performing umrah with Abdullah, would now find the going rough. As for the real Mat Deros, now dead, watch his estate being saddled with unpaid assessments, plus penalties. It would not surprise me that the infamous mansion in Klang to be cited for non compliance with local building codes and therefore had to be torn down.

Rest assured that all those powerful UMNO ministers and functionaries wishing to have their own mansions in the cities of the states controlled by the opposition would no longer get sweetheart deals, where valuable crown lands would be handed to them at cut-rate prices a la Mat Deros. They would heap their frustrations on Abdullah. It would be tough on them and Abdullah, but good for Malaysia . That is one positive development of this election."

The above were quoted from articles written by a US Based MALAY Malaysian surgeon Dr M Bakri Musa.

I hope the Malay masses will see the true picture now.

In fact, the root cause of 1997 economy crisis are NEP. It weaken the country economy structure. NEP mindset has infest the economy, and company performance no longer base on effectiveness and efficiency. We just don't have enough good fundamental company inside KLCI.

Just look at Monday market plunge! Because KLSE replace many key indexes blue chip company with cronies company. It bloated KLCI without strong fundamental support.

Dear all anonymous :
You can key in bogus unqiue ID under the "Name/URL" session. Please don't use anonymous, it is difficult to differentiate all anonymous.

OTH, please people, don't use the idea of TORE-DOWN. Those mansion, buildings, etc take lots of resources to build. We are not in BC 1000 era. We can always convert those building for good use.

---------------

BTW, anyone remember the RM40 millions Selangor EXCOs banglo, in Shah Alam Section 7.

to use the tsunami comparison, once the wave has washed over the land, the geography will and has changed.

the traditional sources of cash are no longer under their control. the only one left is in Johore, not enough to feed the hungry hordes.

things will get uglier once the hungry pangs reach where it hurts the most, the bank balance, ;)

moo_t,

I like the idea, we shouldn't tear down a good working building, we should put it to good use instead. like converting it into a "museum of corruption".

Hasilox,

You said rightly; they now can't hide behind the NEP; when the majority of the Malays starts to gain from an open policy, it will mark the end of UMNO.

Moo_t,

the root cause isn't NEP per se but the corruptors who abuses the NEP to benefit a few of themselves at the expense of the nation of people and then put the blame on the Chinese businessmen.

BTW, thanks as I had called upon Anons for umpteen times to login with monikers, but to no avail.

Jefus,

Change will happen and if the BR govt can prove itself to benefit the people of the nation as a whole and in particular, ensured that most Malays prospered, then UMNO becomes obsolete.

the professionals, across racial lines, can see that NEP has been exploited to the hilt by a select few. they have creamed off the top and whats left are not enough to help the rest. They are not against helping the bumis. they are not arrogant. what they cant stand are hypocrites hiding behind the NEP to enrich themselves.
take for an example, the issuance of APs. If they have tendered it out, the additional revenue generated a year will come to billions which could have help to build more schools and clinics in the rural areas. instead, the bulk of these APs went to a select few cronies. The billions made were partially used to build palaces and buying mansions in London and Australia. Is this NEP?

I was hoping that GE12 will give Nazri Aziz the boot, but, alas I am sadly disappointed.

Another person on Government (the rakyats) payroll with obscure portfolio and responsibilites.

I hope GE13 will see the last of him !!

`MELUAT' was the words kampung people use to describe UMNO Reps. It is not BN that the Rakyat routed in the GE12, it's those MUKA TAK MALU riding on NEP for personal gain. Dato' Mustapha Mohamed retained his Jeli Parliament seat though sidelined from UMNO State Leadership and Election Machinery after all his efforts to win back the support of Kelantanese from the 1999 GE setback. In 2004 he almost made it.

Then Power Lord phenomena ruled again and the rejected Anuar Musa took the helm again. And He lose the Ketereh seat even with army votes.

We want honesty in the leaders. No ifs nor buts. NEP or other programs are just means to achieve good governance for the people. Any plan can be malpracticed. It's the sincerity of leaders behind the plans that is all important. In a sense PAS is right about that..

Gan,

Nazri won on merit; we had to respect that and I think his reduced majority had open his eyes to speak the truth.

Gukita,

I agree wholly with you that we need sincere leaders who will do everything to help the rakyat who are poor and needy. PAS had proven that 18 years they could keep Kelantan economically sound. That proves their competence.
