Zaid rejected; Zaid dejected!

The new cabinet, at its meeting yesterday, rejected de facto law minister Senator Datuk Zaid Ibrahim’s proposal that the government should apologise to the victims of the 1998 judicial crisis.

Zaid was upset and this is what he can say:

"I have presented my view that the government should apologise to Tun Salleh (Abbas) and the judges. Well, I am afraid the view has yet to be considered. There are many people who are more experienced and are wiser than me. So, we have to wait."

"I don't think I want to add anything more to this," Zaid said. He did not go into details.

However, it is understood that his view had been rejected by the rest of his colleagues during the cabinet meeting yesterday.

Zaid said the apology was something "we can do if we want to, but it is up to the leaders (to decide)."

This Zaid also another opportunist. If the story that Agong stay firm and PM give way in the Trengganu is confirmed, what is the credibility of Zaid in trying to side PM on the Trengganu crisis.

Look at what he said earlier at http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/3/25/nation/20737318&sec=nation

Zaid: Palace must resolve impasse in Terengganu

KUALA LUMPUR: The impasse over the appointment of the Terengganu Mentri Besar has to be solved by the palace, said Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, the minister in charge of law.

“The solution has to rest with the palace. The istana should undo this thing. They must pick the person who has the support of the House, otherwise this (crisis) will not end,” he said when contacted yesterday.

“It’s a constitutional government, and any attempt to thwart it is not justified.”

Zaid and Nazri sama-sama saja. Only difference he owns a big legal firm and people buy that story when u own big assets, it must be good.

I have a lot of respect for Datuk Zaid. Given the circumstances, if his colleagues in the Cabinet do not support his recommendation to apologise to Tun Salleh Abas (if I believe is the right thing to do), he should just quit. I foresee lots of hurdles from his fellow BN colleagues if he tries to clean up the judiciary. The PM has chosen the right man for the job, but has tied his hands right from the start.

Father-in-Law of Scomi MD getting an apology from Pak Lah govt.

Bagus!

Sandiwara lagi. In fact, Salleh Abas must already be on good terms with Pak Lah cos his SiL and Kamal Abdullah are making tonnes of money together.

They never tell you the REAL basis Ministers are appointed.

Woman in Malaysia,

I think one incident should not deter Zaid from losing faith. He need to persevere and we need reforms in the judicial system; no one else can be entrust this task. We need hope.

anon 10.53pm

if there are more zaids around, this country would be miles ahead in economics and civility. as i always said, zaid will be better off by resigning from BN. no, you can never change BN from within. the respectable Dr Toh of gerakan had said that. so did Mahatir recently. the rot in BN is too advance to be saved. come next election, BN will be sitting on the opposite side as opposition party. WE WILL SEE IF MY PREDICTION IS RIGHT IN % YEARS TIME MAX.

Zaid didn't say WHO reject his proposal. How nice. Perhaps BR MP can push the mandate through Parliament, then we will know whether MCA,Gerakan, SUPP,PBS are part of reject group.

apology?? no way. If indeed the Govt wanted to clear the slate, they would have been unhesitant to the setting up of a ROyal Commission immdly the moment the Lingam tape came up. Instead the Bodowi govt..was dilly dallying with a special committee..

Zaid make mistake of accepting the minister post.

Mave,
I think Zaid already knows the outcome even before he said it. It's a `buying-in' process and you are very well versed in this leadership concept. I learned from our XDG; you know who..

Zaid said that the matter is yet to be considered..... .Why are we fussing about that statement "it is understood..". It seems people i giving more credit to "it is understood" than "zaid said".
Oh my God!

Moo_t,

No way, BN component parties won't do anything on this.

Artchan,

I don't think so. Zaid is trying hard and accepting the post is a contribution to the nation.

Gukita,

You are right. Zaid had to persevere in the face of resentment. He needs to be dynamic while he must also accept rejections.

Warrior2,

I believed you do not read Zaid's statement clearly. You seems to have already make up your mindset in the way you preferred to construe before you read and analyze Zaid's jesty words.

Ling Ling Chatt,

I hope you're wrong and I hope Zaid would continue to push for reform.

Zaid will do anything to stay in his new job...even accept that slap in the face. Kalau jantan, letak jawatan serang, Zaid. Kalau todak, then just shaddup!
