Food Price Increase: Govt say, "don't eat"

The Don't Doctrine

Food prices rise, eat less rice

To deal with the global shortage of food commodities, the govt is calling the people to reduce rice consumption.

Agriculture and Agro-Based Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed said this in response to the Thai Government’s recent call for their people to reduce rice consumption to address the global increase in prices and acute shortage of staple foods.

"Each adult Malaysian consumes a per capita average of 77kg of rice per annum so there is room for a reduction by substituting it with a greater intake of vegetables and an emphasis on a health-conscious diet," he said after visiting the Merdeka padi scheme in Mulong with Kemubu Agriculture Development Authority chairman Datuk Seri Annuar Musa.

Price of rice increases, don't eat rice.

Price of vegetable increases, eat grass.

Price of petrol and diesel increases, don't drive cars.

Price of water increase, drink NeWater or well water; no well water, drink rain water; no rain, drink what?

Price of corruption increases, do what?

The Minister said that the Government will introduce a "holistic" package to deal with the global shortage of food commodities. It's the first time I understand what is holistic; be holy towards the government - don't eat, don't drink, don't use petrol, don't spent money ... only a dead man can!

The "Don't Doctrine" in Bolehland actually includes a very long list, not merely on food and consumerism alone. It is the backbone of insolvent intellect in governance as an expectation of an uncomplaining populace.

"Head I win and tail you lose" management.

But I can tell you that the "Don't Doctrine" won't apply to a certain group of people. They tell you we have a fantastic education system but send their children to be schooled overseas even though it costs probably 100 times more. They tell you to visit more places in Malaysia while they holiday overseas.

Don't walk the Talk but Tok Kok.

Don't care for true substance but only false image.

Don't accept any criticism except(as sometimes claimed) "positive ones". WTF is 'positive' criticism? An euphemism for verbosely written aologia by the servile Press like the Star by Latuk WCW.

Once upon a time, Malaysia government used to ask people to plant some fruits tree at home. Alas, all fails. In fact, I did notice people sneakily plant ulam at hills side. To avoid the urban pollution towards those food plant.

I am quite disappointed most people don't plant Kacang Botol (Winged bean) at their landed property. It is a plant require little fertilizer, no pest control, 100% organic food you can growth at home. According to wikipedia, this yesteryear cheapo vegetable beside beans pod, leaf and roots are edible.

After some research, facts show the plant can produce 8000kg/hectare in 60 days. A plant that surpass any land growth food in production.

So is it food shortage problem or human stupidity?

how many kacang botol can we eat? can it replace rice? not trying to avoid brilliant solution here, but grain, rice, wheat and grass (we don't eat this, but the cattle do, and we will have meat in return) are the most important plants in the world for human survival. we can eat some vege to a certain extent, but it cannot replace rice, even vegetarian don't just eat vege, they take rice or wheat as the main course. it takes 700 calories to produces 100 calories of meat, so one way is to reduce meat intake, that will reduce the burden on grains fed to cattle. but this is also not a long term solution, we need another miracle.

Dear anonymous 3:24pm,
first, you can always use Name/URL to post a unique call sign, the url can be any bogus site.

---------
FYI, if you just eating rice, you will die from malnutritions. However, if you keep eating kacang botol, it just make you thinner but maintain you health.

It is depends on willingness of adapt.

In fact, besides tradition and taste, eating white rice is nothing but way to show prestiges, e.g. only poor people can't afford to eat rice.

--------
In fact, alternate food such as Kacang botol are not well commercialise because of its shelves life. Although fresh bean can be keep for 2 weeks in the fridge, The "wings" will turn brown/black.

---------
Doc,
you just need fences and plant the seed. It is a "care less" plant, until your neighbor complaint the plant crawl over their fences.
The challenge are lies on the picking young beans. It growth fast that even good eye sight will missed the young beans.

"Agriculture Development AUTHORITY chairman Datuk Seri Annuar Musa."

The only word that seems unilaterally significant and meaningful is obviously "AUTHORITY", upon which rests the de facto solution, 'Don't Eat!' - which truly makes his job EASY!

Maverick SM said...

Moo_t,

Ok, I start become a farmer and plant Kacang botol and then sell; you help me to market, okay???

Wits0,

Don't eat, die lah!!!

Hi Mav,

Check out the info from:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marie_Antoinette

Quote:
There are several populary cited anecdotes from Marie Antoinette's life:

The queen responded, "Qu’ils mangent de la brioche" ("Let them eat cake)," when she was initially confronted by the poverty of the French people. There are a variety of versions concerning the circumstances under which Marie Antoinette supposedly first said these words (ranging from peasants coming to the gates of Versailles begging for food to her driving through Paris and seeing the condition of the peasants on her own). However, the quote actually comes from the philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau, who commented that a "certain princess" said it, the supposed princess being Louis XIV's queen, Maria Theresa of Spain. Maria Theresa's quote was, "S'il ait aucun pain, donnez-leur la croûte au loin du pâté", which roughly translates to, "If there be no bread, give them the crust off of the pâté". Though this claim concerning the Spanish princess is also backed up by the comte de Provence, it is unknown if she, or any other French queen, actually ever said it.[109]
