Half-a-million here and there and nowhere

Half-a-million gone in 44 days

A group residents from the Teratai state constituency in Ampang turned to the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) today for help to solve the mystery of how the half-a-million allocated for the constituency was spent.

The 10 residents filed a report with the Selangor ACA headquarters in Shah Alam based on records obtained from the Ampang Jaya District Office.

The documents showed that the money was disbursed between Jan 1 and Feb 14.

Based on the records, a company known as Tunggak Mahligai Enterprise received a total of RM275,000 over the period.

The residents alleged that the company is owned by one ‘Mohd Firdaus Abu Zarin’ who is said to be a politician from Kampung Cheras Baru.

The case in Teratai is not an isolated one. State allocations for the Kampung Tunku, Kajang and Taman Medan constituencies have also nearly been depleted.

According to Kajang assemblyman his predecessor had used RM134,805 of the funds while another RM141,570 was paid to a company called Asialogic Enterprise.

Annually, the state government disburses RM500,000 at the beginning of the year to each state constituency meant for use by the respective state assemblypersons.

The state assemblyperson can use this funds, held in trust by the district officer, for donations, disaster relief, small infrastructure projects, festive celebrations and so forth.

Well, I don't know what's there to complaint; isn't it suppose to be 'Bersih, Cekap dan Amanah'?

Yes, they did it; it's bersih - sapu sampai habis; it's cekap - speedy and efficient; and of course it's amanah!

Don't blame lah; they did what was needed to be done; it was not the first time; it's at least a 20 years custom and it had been accepted as part and parcel of our culture and tradition. After all, the money was also spent on organising Chinese New Year, Thaipusam celebrations and Taman Melor Sports and Recreation Club (never mind if that club did not exist; after all it was an Umno club).

They were the tuans; weren't they?

come on man ... why wait until problem exploded then want to complaint
Let focus on job new thing rather then all the time talking about bribe. Boring lah
Tolonglah , fikir yang terbaik utk semua, tak habis habis dgn rasuah. Kalau semua org fikir tak ada rasuah , impossible .... so jangan banyak menghabiskan masa dgn isu yang remeh ini.Let focus on new thing

Anonymous is defintely annoyed. He calls rasuah isu yang remeh. Ya, la sebab UMNO buat, remeh la. No we will not stop talking about the dirty past but neither would we remain rooted in the past. While we talk of the past we move forward knowing to to avoid which route that was taken in the past.

The term "corruption" covers a great variety of sins and is not an
easy term to define as there are many alternative definitions, depending on the emphasis chosen.

Arnold J. Heidenheimer has identified three types of
definitions of corruption, namely, public-office-centred, market-centred
and public-interest-centred definitions.13

The public-office-centred
definition of corruption is the most useful for the purposes of this research.

A good example of a public-office-centred definition of corruption is
provided by Joseph S. Nye, who defines corruption as:
"... behaviour which deviates from the normal duties of a
public role because of private-regarding (personal, close
family, private clique) pecuniary or status gain; or violates
rules against the exercise of certain types of private regarding
influence."14

Corruption can thus be defined as deviant behaviour by an individual or individuals for the attainment of some socially and/or legally prohibited favours.15 Examples of such behaviour include bribery, nepotism, misappropriation
of public funds or stores, irregularities in the granting of
import-export licences, and under-assessment of income tax or estate duty for pecuniary gain.16

Msians tend to think corruption is mostly money related. Take a look around you, corruption is everywhere.

Kata Tak Nak,

Hahaha, isu yang remeh; what a nice phrase. I agree that we look at the past to draw wisdom for our journey ahead.

Ling Ling Chatt,

You also buy CK230E isn't it? So you also okay eh...

Jefus,

That was great information but invalid in Malaysian system of interpretation. We are an Islamic country and in top of that we have the social contract of ketuanan. Corruption means anything that the ruling govt dislike, disagree and non-beneficial to their own under the ketuanan concept.

Hello cikgu nazir, remeh maksudnya bukan remeh temeh yg cikgu faham
Dalam erti politik, remeh dimaksudkan X-File story (no ending topic)
So do not prolong this message. Pls more focus on value added text
If ur team from opposition is good enough, lets do it rather then just talk it
Dear Maverick ...
I hope that I do not stated bribe is remeh issue but I'm talkin from politik view. I'm not take it as minor issue but to solve it not as easy as most of non politican think. We can measure the sea level but to measure the intergrity of politican and it gang , it is not so easy. Eventhough PKR defacto also come from corrupted team so can he prove that he is Mr Clean and if he form new gov, corruption level or issue will be 0%. Good ... but dont like cakap tak serupa buat@ I Show Only
We want do what u write and write what u do
