Earthquake: Learn to Understand Animal instincts

On May 5th, many Chinese locals noticed thousands of frogs on the move.

They were seen traveling without fear of traffic as they crossed streets in mass floods.

Many Chinese sensed the migration as a bad omen of a coming natural disaster, but the Chinese government told them that it was just a natural migration for the purpose of propagation.

This calmed the people and no one took the omen very seriously.

On Monday, 12th of May, at about 2:45pm, central China region recorded a 7.8-magnitude quake which occured near Wenchuan County, Sichuan province, that killed nearly 10,000 people.

Many civilian houses and roads were collapsed and damaged. In one Dujiangyan city middle school, 900 students and teachers were buried in the collapsed building, at least 50 were killed.

The quake was the largest the region has seen for over a generation.

It was so strong, even countries like Thailand, Vietnam and Hong Kong felt the shake.

Many people are now calling the Chinese Earthquake Test Centers "useless", as they were unable to even detect the earthquake before it happened.

When they finally announced the earthquake had occurred, it was 12 minutes after the disaster, and 2 minutes after the US had announced a large earthquake in China.

As for the Frogs and their omen, Chinese scientists stated animals have much better sense than human on detecting the natural disasters like this.

If only we learn to understand the animal instincts, we may be able to avert natural disasters.

But some learnt to croak like a frog and hop around too.

Did Animals Sense Tsunami Was Coming?

Before giant waves slammed into Sri Lanka and India coastlines ten days ago, wild and domestic animals seemed to know what was about to happen and fled to safety.

According to eyewitness accounts, the following events happened:

• Elephants screamed and ran for higher ground.

• Dogs refused to go outdoors.

• Flamingos abandoned their low-lying breeding areas.

• Zoo animals rushed into their shelters and could not be enticed to come back out.

The belief that wild and domestic animals possess a sixth sense—and know in advance when the earth is going to shake—has been around for centuries.

Wildlife experts believe animals' more acute hearing and other senses might enable them to hear or feel the Earth's vibration, tipping them off to approaching disaster long before humans realize what's going on.

Zewt,

Ya, the tsunami was another of the disaster event that the animal had provided the signals to human beings, yet we wouldn't listen and take notice.

Jefus,

Ya, you gave us a great link and I believed that there were signs and signals of catastrophic events before it happens.

Holy crap. If I see that many frogs cross the stree in front of me, I will scream like a banshee and run away like a madwoman.

Thank I will come back with petrol and burn the frogs to hell.

Seriously.

my rabbit too stayed particularly quiet that day on tsunami, usually it used to be energetic running here and there. anyway, it died 2 yrs ago due to natural age.

as for the frogs signal, what can we do then ? it's too vague to point where the epicentre is, and for this case if frogs migration is used as sign, which place/town should be affected and evacuate.

Denzook,

You had a good point; still it was a great warning and if the system have detectors it would be able to have more information and can do preparation.

Earthquakes have signs of warnings too before it erupts; it's the system who is suppose to monitor that fails to take notice.
