Ex-deputy SAPP chief reveals hidden power

Disgruntled SAPP ex-deputy president Raymond Tan claimed that he had been instrumental in preventing the arrest of party president Yong Teck Lee in June when he pleaded with PM Abdullah Ahmad Badawi not to arrest Yong under the ACA who is reported to have wanted Yong arrested by the ACA after Yong spearheaded a no-confidence vote against the prime minister.

Tan said he pleaded with PM Abdullah not to arrest Yong as it would be a bad move, and had even gone on television with a plea to allow the latter to speak up.

Tan, who has since quit the party, claimed he had always been protective of Yong and that this has not changed in spite of their differences of opinion over the Sapp pullout.

In an immediate response, Sapp newly-appointed information chief Chong Pit Fah described this as a “a shocking revelation that he can influence the prime minister to stop ACA action”.

This is an admission by a BN deputy chief minister that the prime minister can idirect the ACA to act against his political opponent to safeguard his own.

It is in the public interest to know whether the same influence could be used on other persons such as serving ministers, opposition members or similarly abused in any arbitrary and discretionary manner by the current administration.

i used to think raymond is a good politician (i'm naive tat time). i saw him shopping in shopping centre with his wife without the usual fanfare or bodyguard or convoy around him. hmm.... tat's good right.

few yrs later, few months back to be exact, i saw him almost "crying" on NATIONAL TV when he did the alleged "PLEA" to PM not to take action against SAPP when SAPP wanted to move no-confidence vote against PM. tat drew the line for me.

and i totally understand y he did the plea. he asked PM not to take action against SAPP (not Yong). Y? Cox he wanna remain in BN, tat's y.

More dramatic than the TVB drama.

Afternoon Mav,

Well guess who is waving the "hidden" hands???

If this is indeed true, I am not surprise at all as current BN-UMNO setup, PM have ultimate power. Albar fellow is just another puppet on PM pinky finger.

ACA shouldn't have taken orders from in the first place, they are an independent law party. What if the PM is corrupted himself? little wonder why despite rampant corruption, there seems to be no action against VIP.

this is how law is being conducted in malaysia, no different from myanmar or north korea.

ha2. Independent ACA? Badawi is going to deny he ever spoke to this raymond fella on this.
so, you gonna believe raymond or badawi? both are from BN but someone is gonna seen as a liar.
really "siew sai yan" in cantonese.

This throws a very poor light on Badawi and his administration. Raymond gives this impression - if you were in the camp in power and fall out of favour, you could be investigated for corruption. As long as you toe the line and kow-tow to the big boss, semuanya ok. Makan all you want and you will still be protected. That seems to be the culture.

i thot i read he stop aab from invoking isa to yong - am i misread here ? if it was aca, isn't it this tantamount to abuse of power. i'm sure yong is confident to stay innocent even aca to charge him......

a little off topic:

Beliau yang tidak mewakili mana-mana pihak berkata, telah membuat satu laporan polis di Balai Polis Bukit Puchong bagi meminta pihak berkuasa berkenaan menyiasat kenyataan yang dinyatakan penulis akhbar itu untuk mencari kebenaran.

I hope Raymond Tan can order the ACA to arrest all the corrupt UMNOputras. Just one or two arrest will do for a start..to show us his power..

This is syiok sendiri..better than wanking.

CK,

I think you are right; Raymond is a good politician. The only issue is the political alignment.

Edi,

It may not last, but the two are good friends.

Toolan,

I don't know; but I believed Raymond have said the facts.

Tiga Abdul,

You have taken his words to construe an opinion.

Denzook,

Let Pak Lah explain himself on this.

Kau Sai,

Raymond is not small fry.

Artchan,

Raymond cannot order the arrest; he do not have the power or influence. Raymond only did protect Yong TL.

Ok Mav,,,

can Raymond please INFLUENCE ACA to arrest those crooks.?

Anonymous said...

In boleh's context, crime is not something against the law committed. It's what the power abusers say.

CK said...

good or not good, one thing is sure. he did it for himself. not becox if ppl and rakyat bla bla....

so, he can also blah!

Maverick SM said...

Artchan,

Raymond cannot influence any arrest; there's no crooks!!!

Hasilox,

I think you have an analogy.

CK,

In politics, there's the paradox of self and others; both are relevant.

Raymons Tan was wrong in persuading Pak Lah not to investigate YTLee. By doing this, he may have perverted the course of justice.

So what's so great about Raymond Tan's action? Pak Lah should clarify Raymond's statement.

Anonymous said...

So there is no truth that the ACA is independent. Of couse, we knew that a long time ago. Now a BN senior member has just confirmed this.

Maverick SM said...

Bayi,

There's nothing great about Raymond. The greatness is the PM who is so arbitrary and discretionary.

Sinkeh,

ACA is independently under the PM's prerogative.

Malaysia now sounds like a mafia country to me. And this Raymond... is he gay?

Maverick SM said...

Purple~Mushroom,

He is not gay; he's man and handsome.

Purple~MushRooM said...

Maverick... Man and handsome can also be gay! Usually, gays are handsome man!

a PKR leader should lodge a police report immediately, for abuse of power (corrupt practice) similar to the one of which DS Anwar Ibrahim was charged about 10 years ago for which he served 6 years imprisonment. NOT that I'm convinced of Anwar's conviction -- this scenario as admitted by Raymond is as close as the one Anwar paid a heavy price on allegedly "trumped" up charges by Dr Mahathir... Justice must not only be donebut seen to be done...Dominic Ng, action eh?

Purple~Mushroom,

Gays are not handsome; they are pretty.

Desiderata,

We have class-prosecutors and ministers. They will act if they deem necessary.
