Zaid Ibrahim: Resignation rejected

Prime Minister Abdullah has rejected Zaid Ibrahim resignation as the de facto law minister.

Zaid was called to a meeting at Seri Perdana with PM from 3pm to 5pm.

At the meeting the PM rejected his letter and told him to take two weeks’ leave instead.

It not known whether Zaid has changed his mind but he has called for a press conference on Tuesday.

Penang CM Lim Guan Eng urged the public to stand by Zaid who “is willing to give up his position because of his principles.”

“We also call on other Ministers and Barisan leaders who criticised the ISA to emulate Zaid’s move and resign as a matter of principle,” he added.

The call for others to resign was echoed by independent MP Datuk Paduka Ibrahim Ali who said that others who disagreed with the use of the ISA should follow Zaid’s footsteps.

The Government cannot function effectively if some members do not toe the line, Ibrahim said.

Ibrahim, the Pasir Mas MP and a former ISA detainee, also proposed that to prevent the ISA from becoming politicised, an impartial committee should be formed to determine if the Act should be invoked.

If the Prime Minister abolish the ISA timely, release 80+ ISA detainee, he will win a place in history, perhaps "bapak demokrasi".

Should the future government switch (whether 916 or year 2013), a pardon will be accept by majorities as long as the "gravy trains" does not exceed acceptable limit.

Lets hope AAB has the wisdom to do the right things.

Zaid will be back in 2 week and promoted to minister in charge of ex-gratia.

Zaid, IF you are reading this...DON'T CHANGE YOUR MIND, STICK TO YOUR DECISION, we don't need another flip flop Minister. Even they offer you ex gratia payments, please do not accept it.

ya i hope zaid will stick to his guns and not change his mind. i hope too all the other ministers who are oppose to ISA (how it was used, not to it generally) will also resign and join pakatan!

from what i understand, the PM didnt rejected the Zaid resignation entirely.it's more like asking Zaid to rethink his decision and take a break for a while.

i'm sure Zaid will quit if he still insist on quiting the cabinet.but that's his call only.only he can make up his mind.

on the Pakatan Rakyat side, they're always open for people like Zaid.

let's just see what is gonna happen today at the Zaid press conference.

Malaysia Digest,

Hahaha... you have a pointer.

Edi,

This is not idiot. This is virtue and integrity.

Hopeful,

Ya, I am waiting anxiously.

Mmudahlupa,

No, I think it is strategic.

Beeranyone,

I have always regard you as rational; it looks I'm wrong.

Moo_t,

I agree with you and let's hope; that's right.

BoxxTomoi,

No lah; most likely, it's Minister of Law.

M.I.B.,

That's a good advice.

Lucia,

I personally prefer that Zaid continues to stay in the cabinet and be promoted to Minister of Law; that is, if BN still in power.

Q33NY,

You are right; PM just asked him to go on leave as he wants to get his cabinet members to agree with the appointment of Zaid as Minister of Law.

Pak Lah masih perlukan Zaid didalam kabinet.jikalau tidak Pak Lah sudah lama menerima perletakan jawatan tersebut.

tapi Zaid pernah dikenakan tindakan diatas perilaku politik wang.

jika benar Zaid akan ditabalkan menjadi menteri undang-undang,maka akan diterima sebulat suarakah oleh ahli kabinet yang lain walaupun Zaid adalah seorang peguam?

end,

Zaid sudah tetap letak jawatan.
