Court orders Raja Petra's release

The Shah Alam High Court this morning ruled that the detention of Raja Petra Kamarudin under the ISA was illegal and ordered his immediate release.
Judge Syed Ahmad Helmy Syed Ahmad said that Raja Petra's detention was unconstitutional.
He said that the Home Minister had not followed the proper procedure under Section 8 of the ISA to issue the detention order against Raja Petra.
The judge also ordered that Raja Petra, editor of the popular 'Malaysia Today' website, be produced in court by 4pm today after which he should be immediately released.
Raja Petra is presently being held at the Kamunting detention centre in Perak.
Raja Petra's wife Marina Lee Abdullah expressed her gratitude to the court for ordering the release of her husband.
Raja Petra supporters were also present in the court this morning.
Raja Petra was arrested on Sept 12 and later sent to the Kamunting Detention Camp in Taiping, Perak on Sept 23.
Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar on Sept 22 had signed a detention order for him to be held under section 8(1) of the ISA. Under the Act, the initial two-year detention period without trial can be renewed indefinitely
Syed Hamid then told reporters that he was satisfied that Raja Petra should be held under detention as RPK was deemed to have ridiculed Islam in his articles published in his blogsites which may, could or would likely, arouse anger among Muslims.
According to his lawyer J Chandra, Raja Petra was arrested for publishing articles on his news portal which allegedly tarnished the leadership of the country and insulted the sanctity of Islam.

Thank God that RPK will be released. Thank God that Dr Abdul Aziz was also released. Thank God that Razak Baginda was also released. Thank God that Eric Chia was also declared innocent.
God, what about Altantunya? Maybe, we have to accept that it was your will as she was involved in buying and selling arms which are used to destroy human species.

RPK will be released, but will Syed Botak occupy his Kamunting cell?
don't be so happy yet, they release him so that he can be charged in court. expect a few years sentence for him.
Somehow somebody seems to be more blessed by God to be allowed to be set free or declared innocent ...
at least if he is allowed to defend himself in a fair & just court (normally no need to apply the words "Fair&just" if justice system is what it's set out to be!) & then deemed to be guilty, justice is served!
I like the tongue in cheek on Thanking God, Mav !
Because the interpretation is on whoever God may be! In the case of Eric Chia, methinks it means TDM!
LOL
no matter what people say,i think ISA is still relevant in this country.we dont want another race riot here,do we?so ISA is essential to act on something before anything severe happen.
now,it's known that the latest RPK arrest was illegal and he had to be released.also the court allows RPK to become witness and testify in the court.this shows that the govt under Pak Lah aint arresting people of the sake of having fun.investigation really was implemented.
Thank God? We only Thank God its Friday.
For the rest, we thank the judges, Attorney General, ACA, or PDRM. Sometimes, the politicians too.
But most of all, Thank God, the trials were not conducted by self-proclaimed judges and juries from the Internet world.
As for RPK, he can thank Syed Hamid who may have misinterpreted the due process on ISA detention order or the judge whose interpretation of reasonableness and due process is more up to mark. (Actually, the only information I get from this news story and a few more, is that Syed Hamid's days are numbered.)
RPK deserves what he got because irrespective of his guilt or innocence he has let his emotions into his writings. The only thing I can give him credit for is his commitment in what he believes in (rightly or wrongly.)
Most of us here, like me, only know how to talk big when we can. When push comes to shove, we will know how to toe the line and put our priorities right.
Altantunya will only be released in peace in heaven if the Court Judge is Pak Najib The Dumbfella, and Rosmah is the Senior Court Janitor!
I think in the end we may find Altantuya died from an Act of God.
Because no one will be guilty...
As things stand, the two policemen stand accused of killing her, but no one is guilty of giving them any orders to do so.
So the two men woke up one fine morning and decided to blow up a Mongolian woman.
For what its worth, I never believed Razak Baginda gave the instruction.
Thank God.. Naz and Rosemary cannot sleep well for the rest of their life..Hope they have nightmares..let him dream of submarines, mongolia, and have sleepless nights
