Billboards - Selangor Dilemma

It's too Costly to dismantle those billboards

Selangor MB Khir Toyo lamented that it's not that he don't want to take down the illegal billboards; it's just too costly to do so and it will deplete the coffers.

He acknowledged that those billboards are eyesores, tapi, apa boleh buat?

"The mess was a result of lack of supervision", he told reporters.

“This is the kind of serabut (mess) that happens when there is no proper supervision from the beginning when the problem started,” he added.

Now, actions must be taken because the Selangor Sultan has sounded his displeasure.

No money to take down the billboard but got money to sent Councillors to Africa and Europe and Egypt to watch belly dancers ah?

I think Khir Toyo is saying that Selangor must further increase assessments taxes, licence fees and development contributions, in order to take down those billboards.

The funny thing is that there is enough enforcement officers to patrol those who kiss in the public park and to kacau the pasar malam and pasar pagi traders; but no money to remove billboard.

Another poser: aren't those boards erected with consent or concurrence of the council? Sudah bayar kah?

In Penang, the Penang Ratepayers Association accused the authorities of closing one eye to the hazards posed by billboards. “The problem in Penang is as chronic as in Selangor. We hope Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas will also state his displeasure,” said association president Datuk Eddy Choong.

Tak ada idea? Apart from limited display time permit, the fees should be banked into Akaun Amanah to be used for future dismantlement if the need arises.

Gukita, I just wonder why how many of us who are not within the system can just throw some common sense idea which can work in simple ways, yet the well educated and highly qualified President and the MB seems just to shut down thei brain and uses the kidney to think.

Thank Gukita. I just thought you did not update your blogs. Same 666 till today???

I think Mr Toyol has just given a loud and clear message to all and sundry in PJ - GO AHEAD & erect all the illegal billboards you want!

This is SELANGOR MAJU version of good governance.
