What message are we sending to the world?

All Malaysians are waiting with bated breath to herald Visit Malaysia Year 2007 in just four days.

What message are we sending to the world?

NST came up with the new slogan:

"No cheating please, we're Malaysians!"

(Hasilox posed another slogan: "No NEP please, we're Malays)

Is that reflective of our inner morality or is it just a catch phrase?

Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan, the minister in-charge has this to add:

"Many foreigners are keen to learn from Malaysians about tolerance and compromise. Malaysia is known throughout the world for its multi-racial and multi-cultural society."

"Our way of showing to the foreigners what a wonderful country Malaysia is and how its people live harmoniously under one roof with so much respect for each other ..."

Not only that - we also showed foreigners how fair and just we are.

MPK had demolised DZ Satay House which was built on state land without permits and without the need for approval.

To prove that MPK is fair to all, particularly, being fair to Zakaria and his family, MPK also demolish 10 other stalls operating from the buffer zone and road reserve in Jalan Pandamaran, Klang.

Shah Alam council had also raised fees for hawkers. Mayor Datuk Ramlan said the hike was necessary and unavoidable to cover all the expenses incurred by the council.

I hope it did not include the expenses incurred for the councillors to visit public toilets in Africa and Mauritius and also trips to Genting for the council meetings.

Re-branding Mat Rempit to show the world how great our motorcyclist are?

Seberang Prai OCPD Wan Abdullah said: "Branding illegal racers as Mat Rempit has emboldened them to carry out their activities.

But, En Wan, they are no more called Mat Rempit; they are now Mat Cermelang, Mat Gemilang dan Bilang-bilang. UMNO Putera is the self appointed managers for all Mat Rempit and most of the rempits had joined UMNOputera.

The recent floods in Malaysia may also be something the foreigners can learn from the Malaysians.

It was how the opportunists make big bucks by providing "professional" services to those victims.

Of course, the payment had to be made with wet money; and the gainer had to hang it up to dry the pieces!

No cheating please!? What happens to the law? Is that mean the law is helpless against cheating? OMG for 1.
Imagine when the foreigner visit Malaysia, what they think? Malaysia law can't protect consumer from cheating? OMG for 2.

And fair or not fair, the visitor are not going to read from the newspaper, it means little to them. They just learn the country from the place they visit, people they meet, jargon they read. So when they see a slogan of "racial harmony", they know the society is short of it. Similar to the slogan of "saving water". Those politicians just refuse to learn what they say just a mirror reflect the opposite.

The ridiculousness of this government is no longer expressible in words.

- They claim what they are not. Often, the exact opposite.
- They practice what they say they don't.
- They constantly remind the people not to do the 'evil' things that they themselves do like 'standard operating procedures'.

It is very tragic.

moo_t,
For foreigners who know us, their opinion of us now is like the way we think of NORTH KOREA! A regime that spins like nobody's business to keep its people 'stupid'. I know this because I deal with people from various countries everyday.

Visit Malaysia 2007? Well, I don't how to lie to those I knew personally. What should I say then?

Should I talk about our RM9.2 millions 'futuristics' toilets?
http://www.jeffooi.com/2006/12/asia_truly_malaysia.php

But, it is listed in the Reuters' "Oddly News" category! The laughing at this another circus news of ours has just barely started. So how?

"No cheating please, we're Malaysians" stinks to high heaven. Reminds me of the comedy movie "No sex please, we're British" in the 1970s. Better change the slogan to "No pissing please, we've no toilets"

Fees/Prices increase 'unavoidable'?

The prices in Msia are very DISPROPORTIONATE of incomes!!!

Even cost in Spore is MORE AFFORDABLE than Msia! Take a look at this "Msia-Spore prices" data that I compiled few days ago.

The comparison is based on local denominators, without currency conversion. This is used because a RM1000 job in Msia is easily paid more than S$1000 in Spore. Such income disparity is across the board. Yet, the prices in Msia are higher for almost all items in the market!

.Coca-Cola (330ml) - RM1.50 vs S$0.70
.McDonald (Value Meal) - RM10.00 vs S$5.50
.Petrol (1 liter) - RM1.90 vs S$1.60
.Chicken (1 kg) - RM6 vs S$3
.MRT/LRT (~45 minutes ride) RM2.50 vs S$2.00 (rough estimate)
.Taxi (~45 minutes ride) RM????? vs S$20-S$25

Our 0% GST living cost is even higher than that of a developed nation with 5% GST (soon 7%)! Something is seriously very wrong.

This country has been very seriously MISMANAGED!!!

Hasilox,

Your statistical analysis on the cost of living is great. Thanks.

What a joke! the new VMY2007 slogan:
"No cheating please, we're Malaysians!" Tell that to the flood victims and they will replace it "No looting please, we're Malaysians!" or "No extortion please, we're Malaysians!" Better still, "No NEP please, we're Malaysians!"

Umno Putera will soon going be glorifying criminals such as runaway maids as Minah Cabut, snatch thieves as Mat Rampas, school truants in cybercafes as Mat Siber, looters/burglars as Mat Pinjam, police demanding bribes/extortion as Mat Minta, hit-and-run drivers as Mat Lari, unwed mothers who abandon their babies as Minah Tohok
