Public Universities fails test

Today's Headline:
Public universities fail outstanding test

PUTRAJAYA: In a sad commentary on the state of the nation's public universities, a government survey has concluded that none of them are outstanding.

Is this shocking? NO! In fact, we are please that none of our public universities falls below the "Less satisfactory and Weak" Level. Why? Is it true that none is below "less satisfactory"? The participants in the survey were made up of partly academicians and corporate HR. They are public relations officer, preferring maintain harmony and goodwill. None wants to rock the "boat".

However, if another survey can be carried out to cover a wider spectrum of population and to include various segments of people, we could have a much worrying results.

The survey should add: "However, if compared with the universities of Somalia, East Timur, Sudan and the like, our Universities are Number 1. So SEMUANYA MASIH O.K."

YUP, I totally agree with you. If they did give me a say in their survey I will give it as VERY LOUSY . Why?
Because whenever my ex students are back from those local Uni for holidays, they will drop by the school to visit us. As teachers we know their standard but when you ask them the course they are taking , you will 'terus pengsan'.... super weak students can also end up as engineers, architects, biotech etc etc !!
If you ask me HOW? I will tell you "NO IDEA!!"
Some of the honest one even tell me they have changed so many courses already !!
The only thing I can say to myself is OMG!!

The local universities have many excellent staff at all levels, but there are many factors which stifle education from Standard 1 through to higher education. University is a place to learn many things, freedom is one of them. In Malaysia there are too many impediments and restrictions imposed by the authorities. The result of this is a poor studying environment, lack of self motivation, no open minded, out of the box thinking, talking down to pupils, and the 'do as I say, not as I do' mentality.
No wonder the well-to-do send their off springs overseas to study.
