Stroking Racial Hatred

I just read Jeff Ooi's blog and I felt compelled to publish his script here:

Utusan and Bernama

All leaders in states not controlled by Umno dominance must be careful.

In the aftermath of the Abdullah debacle in GE2008, Utusan Malaysia and Bernama became the two media organisations that stoked political hatred, pitting Malays against non-Malays.

Both the media groups framed Lim Guan Eng for a mention of May 13, which the new Penang CM didn't say. I knew as I stood behind him during the press interview. And the CM's press secretary confirmed the same.

We queried Khalid Mohd, the Group Editor-in-Chief of Utusan. He passed the buck to Bernama, saying that his paper had used the national news agency's dispatch, though his reporters were present during Guan Eng's interview.

We took Khalid at face value and queried Yong Soo Heong, the Editor-in-Chief of Bernama. He faxed us this letter yesterday, which I reproduce verbatim:

March 14, 2008

YAB Sdra Lim Guan Eng
Chief Minister of Penang
28th Fl, Komtar
10502 Penang

Dear YAB,

On behalf of my colleagues in BERNAMA, I would like to congratulate your team and you for the recent victory in Penang.

I would also like to take this opportunity to apologise for the sloppy editing in the news story of March 12, 2008, which we mistakenly quoted you as commenting on the May 13 incident as well. The inclusion of the fact was intended to give background on the establishment of the NEP in 1971. Nevertheless, upon a thorough review, the inclusion of that fact along with your quote may have been inappropriate.

As we move forward, I would like to ensure you of BERNAMA's co-operation for your newly-formed government and shall always endeavour to help you promote the well-being of Penang and its people.

Yours sincerely,

YONG SOO HEONG
Editor-in-Chief

The Utusan-Bernama ruckus started when Guan Eng announced all government procurements in Penang will be through open tender -- something that the NEP did not address and went on to create cronies and entrench corruption in the system.

I hope the next time Umno leaders took to the streets to stoke people's sentiments along racial lines, you know who is to blame.

Note: I had asked for Jeff's permission to publish this piece of information to the general public so that people are informed of the conspiracies. I hope all other bloggers will also do so. This way, we hope it will wake up the mainstream media and the conspirators who are working hard to destroy and tear apart the social fabric which will ultimately result in chaos and instigate the clash of civilization.

Again, race is the issue. Maybe UMNO does not have anymore grounds to crush and damage the image of their rivals.

A bunch of cowards.

TRUTH SHOULD BE THE BASIS FOR IMPROVEMENT
-------------------------------
Will bloggers be open to tell the Truth that little change can be done without the Chance of Amending Constitutions and Laws?
When 1/2 of the Parliament seats are not in hands of the Oppositions!
Or, to review the reality of what can be done or cannot be done after this GE?
So the Manifestos of the Oppositions are to be revised instead of taking the existing as guideline for their performance.

Mave, I think you can add Astro Awani Channel 501 news to the group mentioned. I was watching the BM news on channel 501 about the Kamdar protest yesterday. The news explicitly said the protest WAS NOT brought up by ANY political group. THe protest was from bystanders and ordinary Malays on the street who felt threatened by the abolishment of NEP.

Switch to channel 502, Bernama news, they reported the protest was from UMNO youth. Well, Bernama got it right this time.

I concur with your idea calling all bloggers to write on this piece of information to prevent the conspirators out there from achieving their aim of creating public unrest.
Thanks for taking up the lead.

If the MSM keep doing this, it will give bloggers a good name !!!

in politics, five years is a lifetime. friends can be enemies and vice versa. the ground changes every time you look at it.

BR can gather support if they win the public confidence, or loose it if they continuously foul up.

BN espeically UMNO, can grow cash strapped (do they know how to operate on a shoe string budget?)and Sarawak and Sabah have a long history of flip flops in politcal party loyalties - so, BN better watch out, if they re not careful they may sit on the other side of parliament and begin to call theselves, the 'o' word, .....opposition

five years, like i said is a long time

Maverick

I commend you for the promotion of dissemination of information to all sundries so that public can make informed decision.

TV3 last few days continue to play the racial tone in the news expecially on the NEP subject.

Glad that more and more people don't believe what is on MSM now, slowing our society is maturing and that is great.

My parents read Utusan Malaysia. I read you blog. I think we can even out this issue in my household. ....but still why must it always be a race issue?

Actually while the government have been detaining and threatening to detain Malaysians under the ISA for "playing up" racial issues, it is apparent that what is meant is that the GLCs, government-controlled media bodies and ministers monopolise the right to this dubious activity.

Is the government going to send Yong Soo Heong to jail? or Kerismuddin, for the matter?

Does not sound like an apology to me !!!!

But thanks to such people, we have got the masses empowered.

I suggest we sent this youngtaufoo guy to the gas chamber of Zorro.

About time to take LKS out after his genuine, contrite sorry to the Perak royalty.

Hopeful,

The days of race-based political entity is dead. UMNO-MCA-MIC is dead unless they evolve and reconstruct their political ideology. MCA acknowledge this; some UMNO leaders also acknowledge it; but MIC is still sleeping.

Sharing,

The political landscape have change and if the BR can prove to the rakyat that they can create a better society for all the citizens and betterment for Malaysians irrespective of race, it is highly possible that they could take control of the Federal govt.

Helen,

The sad truth is that Bernama, NSTP and Star remains UMNO-centric and have now become the agent of destruction and the promoter of racial hatred.

Purple Haze,

MSM will not do bloggers any favor; the help to cite racial hatred.

Jefus,

We may not need 5 years; Maybe, one year and Anwar will seized control.

CMBSS,

Thanks and we are citizens of the nation.

Msiaman,

Thanks for the clarification.

Constant Drama,

The newspapers particularly Utusan and Berita Harian together with Bernama are now the agent of racial hatred.

Bayi,

Let the issue close; we need to move forward while being vigilant against the MSM.

Cruel Angel,

Soon, the nation will rally against the MSM.

The thugocracy behind the bureaucracy gets laid bare. The perverse media of theirs will too, the more they try to exercise this main ugly raison d'ĂȘtre.

They lost the Cyber War because truth was not with them. It's Kamikaze time next with their MSM.

Wits0,

The blogging fraternity must be relentless in pursuing the total destruction of the racial-based politics and promote a truly Bangsa Malaysia.
